Here's the thing, if you spend just a few moments thinking, before you go to bed and as soon as you wake up, you can set the tone, your tone, for the day in whatever way you want.
Here is what Russ and I practice. At night, before lying down to go to sleep, we spend a few minutes thinking of something positive, uplifting, or funny. What made you laugh or smile today? Use that. What always makes you laugh and feel happy, use that- it can be a good deed where someone else smiled and was grateful, giggling with a child, something one of your animals did, getting that garden planted and feeling kick ass accomplished, or the fact that you embraced spending an entire day doing something just for you, maybe reading, spa treatments, or assembling your dream muscle car? - whatever fills your heart with joy in that moment, that should be your final thought before you lay down.
And when you wake up, be quietly thankful. You are chosen to live another day with your family and friends, and you are doing so much better than so many other less fortunate than you. Be grateful, it is amazing how gratitude changes you. I am grateful for the opportunity to live in a beautiful home in a beautiful city, I have a husband who adores me and makes me laugh, I have animals who think I am the best human on the planet. I have great friends, incredible family members. I have access to a beautiful self growth program that teaches me to create more joy and love more. Sometimes I am grateful for the same things, day over day, because they are that good! I could seriously go on for the next 50 paragraphs about all I am grateful for. Practicing gratitude in the morning sets you up to find even more things to be grateful for throughout the day. What you focus on you find.
Try it for a few consecutive days, and then let us know your experience in the comments section.
Peace and Gratitude,
Russ and Suzy
